After he puts the bread in the toaster, Layla asks to be picked up or set on the counter so she can "watch it pop". Then they spread the butter on, which Layla has been demanding lately to "do it all self". Once the slices are toast are meticulously prepared, she and Jeff plop down in their usual spots on the rug and chomp away.
So that's it. No jelly, preserves, cinnamon-sugar, or peanut butter and honey preparations. Just toast and butter. And the kid thinks it's delicious. I've tried before to make Layla toast on weekday mornings, but mine must be inferior to Daddy's, because she only ever takes a couple bites, then hands me back a soggy, gummed-up piece of warm bread. But she eats the entire slice of Chef Daddy toast every single time.
